Ried im Innkreis.

On May 14, 2022, around 2:00 p.m., around 100 passengers were in a regional train just outside the Rieder train station. Most of them were on their way to the Bundesliga soccer match at the Rieder Stadium. When some of the fans on the embankment saw a group of around 40 supporters of the opposing team, a stranger pressed the emergency brake. Most of the occupants left the train immediately afterwards and a mass brawl ensued between the two enemy fan groups. Two police officers were the first to arrive at the scene of the crime and tried to stop one of the train occupants for an identity check. As a result, granite stones lying on the railway embankment were thrown at them by several previously unknown companions of the man. In order not to be hit by the granite stones, some of which were the size of a fist, the police officers were forced to stop the official act and take cover behind their emergency vehicle. The emergency vehicle itself was severely damaged by the stones. After other law enforcement officials arrived to assist, they noticed a 49-year-old from the Linz-Land district holding a granite stone. After he did not follow the request to put the granite stone away, but instead moved in the direction of the officers, they had to use pepper spray to defend themselves. The man was immediately given medical treatment and, when questioned, stated that he had not suffered any physical damage. A total of eleven pepper spray attacks were used against football fans in the railway embankment area after they threw granite stones in the direction of the police officers. It is thanks to a fortunate circumstance that no police officers were injured, the police report.
