Until February 11, 2024, Ivory Coast hosts the CAN, the African Cup of Nations. This very important football competition takes place every two years in Africa. Basically, it’s like the European Cup.

The CAN is also an opportunity to follow the biggest football teams in Africa. Senegal is the defending champion. This year, the favorites are: the Elephants of Ivory Coast, the Teranga Lions of Senegal, the Moroccan Atlas Lions and the Pharaohs of Egypt.

Most African teams have animal names. These animals represent emblematic beasts of their territory. This symbolism is very important in Africa.

Many other teams have animal names like the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde, the Stallions in Burkina Faso, the Gazelles of Angola and many others.
