In a touching and personal video, Princess Katalin, who, as it turned out, is battling cancer, told about her condition on her official Instagram page.
After the abdominal surgery performed in January, the medical opinion was that the intervention was not necessitated by a cancerous change. The operation was successful, but the histological results confirmed the presence of cancer cells, so the princess’s doctors recommended preventive chemotherapy treatment, which she has already started, but as she said, it is only at the beginning.
She has not commented on her illness so far because of her children
In her personal message, Princess Katalin emphasized that she waited until now to make the announcement because of her children, György, Sarolta and Lajos, because she and her husband Vilmos had to think carefully about how to tell them what the situation was, what was to come, and most importantly, to ensure them that their mother will recover.
“You can imagine that it took time, it also took time for me to recover from the serious operation and start the treatment. But the most important thing was to have time to explain to György, Sarolta and Lajos, so that they also understand, and to assure them that I will be fine.”
Katalin also emphasized that she really feels good, is stronger every day, and tries to focus on things that are good for her mind and soul.
Vilmos is the strongest support for the duchess
“The fact that Vilmos is by my side is also a great comfort and reassurance. As well as the love, support and kindness we receive from so many of you. It means a lot to both of us. We hope everyone understands that we as a family need some time, space and privacy right now while I finish my treatment.”
