The answer lies in the story of a little girl whose parents are killed in an air raid as the Nazis advance into France. She is adopted by a poor peasant family and develops a special friendship with their youngest son. Their “forbidden” games (the creation of an animal cemetery) evolve into one of the most emotionally rich, scripturally courageous and cinematically moving bittersweet coming-of-age stories, which won the foreign-language Oscar and the Golden Lion in Venice.”
