Paris: Meeting Macron – Vucic – 2024-04-12 03:17:12

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said he was satisfied with the talks he had with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.

Its president Serbia is making a two-day official visit to France.

The European perspective of Serbia, the issue of Kosovo, armaments, the implementation of major infrastructure projects in Serbia and nuclear energy were the subjects of the Macron-Vucic talks.

The president of Serbia stated that the Emmanuel Macron assured him that there is no “fatigue” in the EU from enlargement and pointed out to him that the integration of the Western Balkans is a realistic prospect.

In order to normalize relations between Belgrade and Pristina, Vucic informed President Macron that Serbia has started to implement the European plan, but on the other hand, the basic condition, which was the establishment of the Union of Municipalities with a Serbian majority, was not met. Of particular interest were the conversations about the equipment. Vucic announced that an agreement had been reached for Serbia to buy French Rafale fighter jets.

“We have reached concrete agreements on the purchase of Rafale, where I expect the contract to be signed in the next two months, in the presence of the President of France, which is extremely important for our country on many levels,” Vucic said from Paris to Serbian journalists.

The Serbian president also said that during the meeting he had with French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecorny, he expressed Serbia’s interest in buying other weapons systems.

Vucic also met with French businessmen whom he invited to participate in the implementation of major projects in Serbia. As he pointed out, one of the biggest investments that will be made in the near future concerns the cleaning of waste since Serbia does not have any operational unit for waste.

According to the protothema, the use of nuclear energy for the production of electricity was also on the agenda of the issues discussed during the visit of Aleksandar Vucic to Paris. The electricity companies of Serbia and France signed a memorandum of intent “for the energy transition to low-carbon technologies”.

As Vucic mentioned, this memorandum shows Serbia’s interest in the production of electricity from nuclear reactors. “France has 56 nuclear reactors and will soon put another one into operation.

We have to work on the use of nuclear energy because the preparations take up to three years and the construction takes seven years, so it takes at least 10 years. If we finish everything by 2035, we will save the country in terms of grid electrification,” said Aleksandar Vucic from Paris.
