Foreign body instead of superstar: Bayern worries about Mané

Mané: foreign bodies instead of superstars

Mané a discontinued model? “Not performed before injury”

Poor performance against Leverkusen as a preliminary low point: Sadio Mané does not live up to expectations at Bayern. There are mutliple reasons for this.

Problem child instead of superstar!

What’s up with just Sadio Mané? The new signing from Liverpool takes place at FC Bayern despite neat First round balance With eleven goals and five assists, he’s not nearly in the form that made him one of the best wingers in the world before his time in Munich.

He reached his preliminary low point on Sunday evening at the 1:2 away bankruptcy in Leverkusenwhen Julian Nagelsmann took him off the field at the break.

Mané was one of the weakest Bayern stars against the Werkself! His horror record in 45 minutes: eight ball contacts and one dribbling, which he even lost. An invisible appearance, with which not only he himself was totally dissatisfied.

Bayern expects a lot more from Mané

Coach Nagelsmann and those responsible expect a lot more from Africa’s footballer of the year, which cost at least 32 million euros!

Why doesn’t Hasan Salihamidzic’s supposed king transfer ignite?

At first glance, an obvious explanation for the Mané low: He was out for three and a half months due to injury and even had to be operated on because of an inflammation in the fibula head.

Since then he has seemed unfit, looking for and rarely winning one-on-one duels – which, as is rumored in the team environment, is said to have been noticed several times in training.

Ex-Liverpool star lacks strengths

The tenor: Mané always works diligently against the ball, but in possession he hardly brings any added value to the team at the moment.

He lacks speed and explosiveness – in other words, the qualities that had distinguished him for years in Liverpool. However, he is obviously also paying tribute to those years in Liverpool.

The fact is: Mané has played an average of 50 competitive games per season with the Reds. Between the winter of 2018 and his departure from England in the summer of 2022, he missed just 13 games due to minor injuries.

Has Jürgen Klopp’s power football drained him? Possible! This could at least explain his poor exploitation of chances.

Signs of lack of concentration

Mané gave in the Bundesliga 48 shots on goal in 18 games, i.e. almost three per game, but only scored with every eighth shot on goal on average (not at all with his last eleven shots on goal). He converted only five of ten big chances. A clear sign of a lack of concentration!

But part of the truth is that his tactical role at Bayern is completely different from that at Liverpool.

While Klopp mostly deployed him as a clear left winger with a supporting full-back (Andrew Robertson), under Nagelsmann he has often acted as a kind of hanging striker in the half-spaces because the left winger in the system with the back three “roadrunner” Alphonso Davies belongs.

Mané like a foreign body

Mané feels visibly uncomfortable and looks like a foreign body because he has far less space when in possession. He is also lost in the center forward position and is often sidelined (18 times in 18 Bundesliga games).

And so it’s no surprise that he doesn’t excel in terms of play or numbers. Mané has been waiting for a goal for eight competitive games (360 minutes). Most recently, he scored against Mainz 05 at the end of October.

Nagelsmann and the Bayern bosses hope that the tide will turn quickly – at best on April 1st big title duel with Borussia Dortmund. (DATA: The table of the Bundesliga)
