ANDHI Pramono, who previously served as Head of Makassar Customs and Excise, was found guilty of accepting gratuities by the panel of judges at the Corruption Crime Court (Tipikor) of the Central Jakarta District Court or Central Jakarta District Court. In a trial held on Monday, April 1 2024, Andhi Pramono was sentenced to ten years in prison and a fine of IDR 1 billion.

The Chairman of the Assembly, Djuyamto, stated that Andhi Pramono was punished because his actions were proven to have received gratification. The prison sentence will be reduced by the length of the detention period at the investigation and trial stages, so that Andhi will only serve the remaining prison period.

Andhi Pramono is also required to pay a fine of IDR 1 billion within one month after the verdict becomes legally binding. If the fine is not paid, the prison sentence will be increased according to the judge’s decision. Apart from that, Andhi Pramono was also required to pay a court fee of IDR 7,500.

Even though Andhi Pramono was considered polite during the trial and had never served a criminal sentence, the judge considered that his actions did not support the government’s program to prevent and eradicate corruption in Indonesia. In his considerations, the judge stated that Andhi’s actions had reduced public trust in tax institutions.

The prosecutor stated that he would consider the verdict, while Andhi Pramono himself stated that he would appeal the decision.

Even though he was sentenced, Andhi Pramono is still not completely free from the law, because he still has suspect status in the alleged money laundering case which is being investigated by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). (Z-10)
