TASS, 7 July. Former Netherlands national football team goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is in intensive care. This was announced on Friday by the press service of the Ajax football club.

“Edwin van der Sar suffered a brain hemorrhage on Friday. Now he is in the hospital in the intensive care unit in a stable condition. We’ll let you know as soon as more specific information becomes available. Everyone at Ajax wishes Edwin a speedy recovery,” the statement said.
On May 30, it became known that van der Sar had decided to leave the post of CEO of Ajax. The specialist explained his decision by the desire to relax and do other things. Van der Sar has served as Ajax CEO since November 2016 and joined the board of directors in November 2012. The contract of the specialist was calculated until June 30, 2025. During Van der Sar’s tenure as CEO of Ajax, he won the Dutch Championship three times, won the Dutch Cup twice and won the Dutch Super Cup once. In the 2018/19 season, the club reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Van der Sar is 52 and played for Ajax from 1990 to 1999. As part of the team, he became a four-time champion of the Netherlands, won the country’s cup and super cup three times, became the winner of the Champions League, UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup. He also became a four-time champion of England, three times – the winner of the national supercup, twice – the English League Cup, once won the Champions League and the Club World Cup as part of Manchester United.
The goalkeeper has made 130 appearances for the Netherlands national team. According to this indicator, he ranks second in the history of the national team, behind only midfielder Wesley Sneijder (134). Together with the Dutch national team, van der Sar twice became the bronze medalist of the European Championships (2000, 2004).
