Former PDVSA mechanic sentenced for the death of Polimaturín

The official died due to severe head trauma.

Under the accusations of the death of Edgar Alexander Morales Martínez, a man was sentenced to 12 years and six months in prison and his immediate confinement in the penitentiary center known as “La Pica”, Monagas state.

Morales Martínez was an official of the Maturín Municipal Police (Polimaturín) and died on April 17, 2021 on Alirio Ugarte Pelayo avenue.

According to the investigation, the victim was hit by a pick-up truck that had signs alluding to the state-owned PDVSA. The driver, it was possible to know later, was under the influence of alcohol. He also worked in the oil company as a mechanic.

In this sense, a road device had been made available to reduce the speed of vehicles passing through the area, reported the Public Ministry (MP).

Despite this, the agent died after the collision that occurred with the vehicle, due to severe head trauma.

The driver was apprehended in flagrante delicto and left at the disposal of the MP.

The Monagas 17th Prosecutor’s Office ratified in the trial his accusation of intentional homicide as possible fraud and embezzlement of use.

The 4th Trial Court in that entity issued the aforementioned sentence against the defendant and ordered his detention.
