The Italian Grand Prix (Sunday 3 p.m., Sky) could be a test of patience for Lewis Hamilton (37). The seven-time world champion will only start the race from 19th place in Monza due to a grid penalty.

While that wasn’t a problem for Hamilton with his Mercedes car in recent years, he has to tremble for the points this year: “I hope I won’t get stuck in the race because everyone has DRS and we’re like a train lap after lap turn. Otherwise I will sit in my car and wait for a strategy from the team and for the tires to be removed from the others.”

The Brit already experienced how likely this scenario is this weekend. “I’m behind Valtteri in practice on Friday (Bottas; Anm. d. Red.) behind him and couldn’t overtake him, let alone catch up,” explains Hamilton – adding jokingly: “I was thinking about taking my iPad in the car and watching the new episode of Game of Thrones.”

Max Verstappen (24) is not worried about getting stuck in traffic. The world champion, who starts the race from seventh place, believes in victory. “Our impressions from the training sessions are good. We have a good chance of winning. Ferrari is faster on the straights, but we have an advantage in the corners,” said the Red Bull driver after qualifying.

Nevertheless, Verstappen should have been surprised by the speed of the Ferraris. It can be heard from the Scuderia that this was possible thanks to an intensive analysis. The drivers in particular are said to have had a major influence. However, it was not about far-reaching changes, but rather about nuances.
