After being mysteriously transferred from New York City, Frey Holland finds herself stranded in the picturesque land of Athea. A magical, realistic bracelet inexplicably wraps around her arm, and Fry discovers the ability to cast powerful spells and use magic to traverse the vast landscapes of Athea. Frey calls his new golden companion “Cuff” and sets out to search for a way home.

Fry soon learns that this beautiful land once flourished under the rule of the benevolent mothers known as the Dandas, until a devastating blight relentlessly destroyed everything it touched. The break turned animals into monsters, humans into monsters, and rich landscapes into four dangerous worlds. In the heart of their ruined regions, the Danta now rules as mad witches and evildoers.

Unmoved by the interruption and in need of answers, Frey reluctantly agrees to help the last inhabitants of Athena, who see her as their only hope.
