Four dead and 21 injured in nursing home fire in Germany

BERLIN (AP) — Four people were killed and at least 21 injured early Monday in a fire at a nursing home in Bedburg-Hau in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, German news agency dpa said. . A firefighter and a police officer also suffered injuries and were taken to a hospital, according to police.

In addition to the confirmed injuries, 46 other residents were evacuated and were being checked for possible injuries, dpa said.

The fire, which started overnight, had been extinguished, but firefighters were still working at the scene, according to the agency.
