Four paintings that had been stolen from a private gallery in Mallorca have been found in Brussels, Spanish police announced on the social network X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday. The Brussels public prosecutor’s office confirmed the information to the Belga agency. The total value of the works reaches 31,000 euros.

Seven paintings by different artists, including the four recovered paintings, were stolen several months ago from a gallery in Palma de Mallorca. Four of these oil paintings were finally unearthed on May 9 in Saint-Gilles.

According to the prosecution, no violation of the code of economic law was noted at the time. No one has been charged in this case. The works have meanwhile been returned to the Spanish gallery from which they had been taken.

The Spanish police thanked Belgian Foreign Affairs and the inspection service of the Belgian Ministry of the Economy for their collaboration.

The file was closed Monday without further action by the Brussels public prosecutor’s office.
