Franky Vercauteren reportedly refused Standard’s offer to succeed Philippe Montanier

The number one file at Standard at the moment is to find a new coach following the dismissal of Philippe Montanier last Saturday after the loss to Sint-Truiden. And this one will obviously not be Franky Vercauteren.

The former coach of Anderlecht and Genk would indeed have been approached by the Liège club, according to our colleagues from Nieuwsblad and Het Laatste Nieuws. The interest was mutual, but Vercauteren eventually declined the offer for family reasons.

Bruno Venanzi, Alexandre Grosjean and Benjamin Nicaise are therefore still looking for a successor to Montanier. The name of the lucky winner should be known very quickly, knowing that the resumption of training is set for Monday, January 4.
