Fred d’Andrea sacrificed his life to save the young Thyméo, “he put himself in my place and pushed me”

As luck would have it, Fred d’Andréa and Thyméo, 12, were both doing the gille for the first time in Strépy-Bracquegnies, this disastrous Sunday. “My brother had already done the gille but at Maurage. It had been fifteen years since he had worn this costume. He took part in the carnival in a different way within the mixed fantasy society he created, Les Amis du Plaisir. Here, he had wanted to accompany his best friend,” explained Frédéric’s brother.

As for Thyméo, he was discovering the joys of folklore for the first time… Until the party turned into a nightmare. But the teenager had his guardian angel. He was saved thanks to a heroic gesture from Fred d’Andréa…

The 40-year-old and the teenager were close by when the crazy car crashed into the crowd.

►► And Fred thought above all about the Thyméo life: he sacrificed his life to save the young boy.

►► For Fred’s brother, this heroic act corresponds well to the personality of the deceased gille.
