Four and a half years after its launch with great fanfare, the Player Free Devialet comes out the back door. Free no longer markets this large TV decoder which was also connected speaker and home automation assistant with Alexa.

As noticed Freebox Universe, new customers who subscribe to the Freebox Delta offer can no longer select the Devialet Player. The choice of decoder is now “limited” to Player Pop (at no additional cost) or to the high-end Apple TV 4K 2023 (€143).
In the small world of boxes, the device produced in collaboration with Devialet has always stood out with its excessiveness and its price, 480 € (with the possibility of spreading the payment over 48 months). “It’s not in the cloud that we’re going to put the Devialet sound. Free had bet on a very high-end offer, a bet that didn’t really work. Only a few days after the presentation of the Freebox Delta, the operator had to add a “Delta S” offer to its catalog without the Player Devialet. In 2020, the more modest Player Pop has integrated the Freebox Delta offer at no extra cost. Relegated to the background for years, the Player Devialet will not even have lived half the life of the Freebox Revolution which is still complete.
Free could launch a new Freebox this year. Will this one take the place of the big rectangular box?
