The FPÖ already sees an “attack on free citizens” and the path to a total ban on cash. What makes the Blues so angry? In the EU, parliament and governments have agreed on a ban on cash transactions above 10,000 euros. The FPÖ’s objections cannot be dismissed. If the state tells citizens how they can pay and where, that is of course a restriction of fundamental rights. As always, it is important to consider: Is there a clear, sensible goal? Are the instruments suitable to achieve it and is it proportionate?
