Freezing of Saudi Reserve League Championship: Clash of Clubs and Controversial Decision

Private sources told Al-Riyadiah that the Saudi Football Association is heading to freeze the reserve league championship for the “Roushen” clubs, for the new season, following 15 clubs refused to organize it for various reasons.
The same sources indicated that the clubs that rejected the reserve league are: Al-Hilal, Al-Nasr, Al-Ittihad, Al-Shabab, Al-Ahly, Al-Riyadh, Al-Ta’i, Abha, Damak, Al-Raed, Al-Taawon, Al-Fayhaa, Al-Okhdood, Al-Hazm, and Al-Khaleej.
While only three clubs agreed to participate in the league, namely Al-Fateh, Al-Ettifaq, and Al-Wehda.
In addition, Al-Riyadiah made phone calls to Naim Al-Bakr, head of the competitions committee in the Saudi Football Association, in order to comment on this news, but he declined.
The Saudi Football Association organized the first edition of the Saudi Reserve League championship last season 2022-2023, and Al-Ettifaq was crowned the title following a competition with Abha and Al-Fateh.
Seven teams participated in the championship last season, namely: Al-Ettifaq “the champion”, Abha “runner-up”, Al-Fateh, Al-Wehda, Al-Shabab, Al-Ta’i, and Al-Fayhaa.
