The speech of the French director Justine Triet, Saturday evening, when receiving the Palme d’Or in Cannes for his film Anatomy of a fall, does not stop making waves.

The filmmaker strongly denounced the way the French government “shockingly denied” the movement against pension reform. “This pattern of dominating power, increasingly uninhibited, is breaking out in several areas,” she said in particular, believing that the power also sought to “break the cultural exception without which I would not be here today. (…) Me, I manage to edit my films. I think about [la] coming generation. It is very delicate”.

Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul Malak reacted strongly to Justine Triet’s words: “Happy to see the Palme d’or awarded to Justine Triet, the 10th for France! But flabbergasted by his speech so unjust,” she wrote on her Twitter account.

“This film could not have seen the light of day without our French film funding model, which allows for a diversity that is unique in the world. Let’s not forget it”, recalls the minister who judges this speech of the director “ungrateful and unfair”.
