French President Emmanuel Macron “closely follows” the situation in Russia this Saturday, as the Russian paramilitary group Wagner went into rebellion against Moscow.

The President of the European Commission Charles Michel indicated for his part that Brussels “is closely following the evolution of the situation in Russia.
“We are in contact with European leaders and G7 partners. This is clearly an internal Russian problem. Our support for Ukraine and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is unwavering,” he said. said, on Twitter.
As a reminder, tensions between the Russian Executive and the paramilitary group Wagner, led by Yevgeny Prigojine, have intensified in recent days after the latter accused Russian forces of attacking its fighters in Ukraine. This Saturday, the forces of the Russian paramilitary group crossed the border between Ukraine and Russia, taking control of strategic points, in particular in the Russian city of Rostov-On-Don.
In recent months, Prigojine had repeatedly accused the Russian Ministry of Defense and in particular the Minister of Defense, Sergei Shoigu, as well as the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valeri Guerassimov, of not providing enough weapons to the paramilitary group that fights alongside the Russian army in Ukraine.
