After 33 years, Fried Vancraen, co-founder of Materialize, is handing over the baton. As of January 1, Brigitte de Vet-Veithen, currently Executive Vice President at Materialize Medical, will become the new CEO. Fried Vancraen will remain involved with the AM pioneer as the new chairman of the Board of Directors.

“We founded Materialize with the mission to create a better and healthier world,” says Fried Vancraen. He did this in 1999 together with his wife Hilde Ingelaere. “Thirty-three years later, the company has reached an ideal point to attract new leadership to lead us into the future. This transition is an evolution of leadership, not a departure.”

Contribution to improving patients’ lives

He looks back with particular pride on what Materialize has achieved in terms of improving patient care and the lives of patients. The way in which Materialize has contributed to improving the industrial production process with innovative 3D printing solutions is also satisfactory. “Brigitte has the perfect combination of internal and external experience and has shown that she is very committed to the mission of Materialize and its people. I can’t imagine a better person than Brigitte to lead Materialize and move our industry forward.”

Broad experience in the medical industry

The new CEO has broad experience, including at Johnsons & Johnson and Acertys Group. She has been working at Materialize since 2016. Under her leadership, Materialize’s medical branch has become the fastest growing and most profitable part of the group. After 33 years, Brigitte de Vet still sees Materialize as a pioneer of the future possibilities of 3D printing. “As 3D printing evolves into an essential tool in the manufacturing toolbox, Materialize is ideally positioned to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities ahead and continue to drive the growth of our industry.” Materialise is currently active in 20 countries.

In his new role as Chairman of the Board of Directors, Fried Vancraen succeeds Peter Leys, who will continue as a member of the Board of Directors. Hilde Ingelaere will resign from her position as Executive Vice President on January 1 and will focus more on her role in the Board of Directors.
