Friends of children: ignite kindergarten turbo with financial equalization

“Government can now show how much their children are worth”

Vienna (OTS) – In the same horn that the Chamber of Commerce blew yesterday, the Kinderfreunde are also blowing today: “The negotiations on financial equalization are THE opportunity to finally push the expansion of the kindergartens forward. There is not very often an opportunity to say this phrase. But today it fits: We absolutely agree with Harald Mahrer!” explains Jürgen Czernohorszky, Federal Chairman of the Kinderfreunde.

The Chamber of Commerce had previously asked the ÖVP-led government to use the financial equalization for the “big hit” for the kindergartens. Something that Kinderfreunde and many other experts have been asking for for a long time.

“The crisis in elementary education has been known for many years and is becoming more urgent every year. Scarce financial resources and a lack of nationwide quality standards lead to poor childcare ratios, insufficient opening hours, completely unsatisfactory working conditions and ultimately to a lack of staff everywhere,” says Czernohorszky.

“It is important to ignite the kindergarten turbo with the financial equalization. We urgently need at least one additional billion in elementary education in order to advance the qualitative and quantitative expansion of kindergartens. It’s regarding nothing less than our children’s first and most important educational station,” say the children’s friends.

“The fact that parts of the ÖVP have recognized the urgent need for action makes us confident. Now we can only hope that Harald Mahrer can convince his party friends in the government to end the starvation of the kindergartens. Now the government can show how much they value the children.”
