Reducing VAT would be a comparatively simple political measure that could be implemented quickly. It is also often demanded by the opposition and consistently rejected by the government and economic experts. Now Spar boss Fritz Poppmeier, the powerful leader of the domestic market leader, has his say: “You shouldn’t do nonsense just because something can be implemented quickly.” In his opinion, reducing VAT would be completely counterproductive.
