From climber to European Cup participant

The Debreziner Eisenbahner-Sportverein is a seven-time Hungarian champion and six-time national cup winner. The DVSC shaped almost a whole decade in the top Hungarian division. Between 2005 and 2014, all seven championship titles and four of the six cup victories. In the 2009/10 season, Debrecen even managed the national quadruple – champion, cup winner, league cup winner and supercup winner. In the 2019/20 season, the club, which was founded in 1902 and is often referred to as “Loki” in Hungarian, had to enter the second division. This was followed by the immediate resurgence as champions of the second division. With the 3rd place in the league, the DVSC secured an international starting place for this season. The starting signal was in the second qualifying round for the UEFA Europa Conference League. After a 1-0 away win at FC Alashkert in Armenia, promotion seemed within reach. A 2-1 defeat in the second leg meant overtime, where the Hungarians finally came out on top on penalties and secured the ticket to the next round.
