Ftusa | 2022 report on Tunisian insurance: Premiums issued up 12.42%

The Tunisian insurance market recorded premiums written at 3,184.955 MD in 2022 compared to 2,833.204 MD in 2021, an increase of 12.42%, compared to 10.23% in 2021 and 6.74% in 2020. Private companies specializing in life insurance achieved, in 2022, a turnover of 461,564 MD compared to 414,836 MD in 2021 and 381,435 MD in 2020, an increase of 11.26%.

The Tunisian Federation of Insurance Companies (Ftusa) has just published its latest report on Tunisian insurance for the 2022 financial year. This work shows that the market recorded an increase of 12.42% in the sector’s written premiums which are raised to 3,184.955 MD in 2022, against 2,833.204 MD in 2021. The settled claims recorded an increase of 5.92%, going from 1,642.879 MD in 2021 to 1,740.214 MD in 2022. The increases have, also, affected the management fees which totaled an amount of 732,094 MD in 2022 against 678,696 MD in 2021, an increase of 7.87%. The technical provisions of the sector recorded an increase of 11.53% in 2022, going from 6,477.054 MD in 2021 to 7,223.562 MD in 2022.

The amounts of investments recorded in the balance sheet assets amounted to 8,094.177 MD in 2022 compared to 7,258.748 MD in 2021, i.e. a growth rate of 11.51%.

The technical result for the year improved in 2022, it generated a surplus of 218,612 MD compared to a surplus of 199,910 MD in 2021. Also, the consolidated balance sheets generated, in 2022, a profit of 259,738 MD compared to 225,041 MD in 2022. 2021.

“Non-life and life” insurance

The analysis by branch shows that on the side of “non-life and life” insurance in 2022, the premiums issued in non-life insurance amount to 2,281,770 MD in 2022, compared to 2,111,221 MD in 2021 and 1,948,000 MD in 2021. 106 MD in 2020, recording an increase of 8.08% compared to 2021. They represent 71.64% of total issues compared to 74.52% in 2021, and 75.74% in 2020. Premiums issued in life insurance amount to 903.185 MD in 2022, compared to 721.983 MD in 2021, and 623.977 MD in 2020. The increase being 25.10% in 2022 compared to 15.71% in 2021. They represent 28.36% of total emissions compared to 25.48% in 2021 and 24.26% in 2020.

In terms of claims, compensation paid (claims settled and capital due) reached the amount of 1,740.214 MD in 2022, compared to 1,642.879 MD in 2021 and 1,353.170 MD in 2020, an increase of 5.92%. The amount of claims paid for non-life insurance amounts to 1,414.584 MD in 2022 compared to 1,294.316 MD in 2021, and 1,142.477 MD in 2020, an increase of 9.29% compared to 2021.

For life insurance, settled claims represent 18.71% of the overall amount of compensation paid in 2022 compared to 21.22% in 2020 and 15.57% in 2020. The amount of this compensation is 325,630 MD in 2022 compared to 348,563 MD in 2021 and 210,693 MD in 2020.

During the past year, the amount of premiums issued in group health insurance amounted to 465,186 MD compared to 418,723 MD in 2021, and 382,441 MD in 2020, i.e. a growth rate of 11.10% in 2022

Assurance automobile

In 2022, the amount of premiums issued in automobile insurance amounts to 1,286.798 MD compared to 1,199.738 MD in 2021, and 1,107.798 MD in 2020, i.e. a growth rate of 7.26% in 2022 compared to 8. 30% in 2021 and 3.80% in 2020. The share of automobile insurance premiums in total emissions in 2022 represents 40.40% compared to 42.35% in 2021 and 43.07% in 2020.

Claims paid in 2022 reached the amount of 803,899 MD compared to 714,312 MD in 2021, and 634,499 MD in 2020, thus recording an increase of 12.54% in 2022. Last year, the amount of premiums issued in transport insurance amounts to 101,662 MD against 88,693 MD in 2020, and 75,752 MD in 2021, an increase of 14.62% in 2022.

The share of transport insurance premiums in total emissions represents 3.19% in 2022 compared to 3.13% in 2021 and 2.95% in 2020. Claims paid in 2022 reached the amount of 14.992 MD compared to 28.161 MD in 2021 and 13,805 MD in 2020, recording a drop of 39.52% in 2022. Regarding the amount of premiums issued in “Fire” insurance, they raised to 173.402 MD in 2022, compared to 161.827 MD in 2021 and 145.823 MD in 2020, an increase of 7.15% in 2022. The share of fire insurance premiums in total emissions increased from 5.67% in 2020 at 5.71% in 2021 and 5.44% in 2022. Finally, the amount of premiums issued in “Credit Insurance” amounts to 20.499 MD in 2022, compared to 19.606 MD in 2021 and 18.182 MD in 2020 recording thus an increase of 4.55% in 2022. The share of credit insurance premiums in total emissions represents 0.64% in 2022, compared to 0.69% in 2021 and 0.71% in 2020.
