Fuel: the reduction in excise duties is extended until the end of the year

The federal government has extended the reduction in excise duties on diesel and gasoline until the end of the year, Finance Minister Vincent Van Peteghem announced on Friday following the Council of Ministers.

The measure taken to relieve consumers in the face of soaring energy prices ran in principle until the end of September. The drop amounts to 17.5 cents per liter, which represents around 10 euros on a full tank. The Minister has repeatedly proposed reducing excise duty on fuel to the European minimum, but the government has so far not agreed to his request.
