The Hong Kong government vowed on the 4th that Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Agnes Chow, who fled to Canada, would face a “lifelong” hunt if she did not surrender.

Zhou Ting, who was sentenced to prison for participating in the large-scale protests in Hong Kong in 2019 and is currently studying in Canada, posted on social media on the 3rd that she would not return to Hong Kong later in December in accordance with parole requirements.

On her 27th birthday, Zhou Ting said that after careful consideration, she “probably will never go back in my life.”

Zhou Ting said she made the decision after taking into account the situation in Hong Kong, her personal safety and her physical and mental health.

The Hong Kong SAR government issued a statement on the evening of the 4th, condemning Zhou Ting’s blatant statement that he would abandon bail and abscond, which was a disregard for law and order.

The Hong Kong government also said that fugitives will be hunted for life unless they surrender.

Zhou Ting, former deputy secretary-general of Demosisto Hong Kong, was once called the “goddess of the student movement” in Hong Kong. Because she was involved in the “anti-extradition” protests in 2019, she was charged with “colluding with foreign forces to endanger national security” in 2020 and was sentenced to prison. She was released from prison in June 2021.
