A “fully autonomous” robot appeared to grope a journalist on Monday during a duplex, as part of a technology festival in Saudi Arabia. Rawya Kassem was speaking in front of the robot, named Mohammad, when the machine appeared to move to touch his behind, as shown in a video circulating on social media.
The presenter, visibly surprised, quickly moved away from the robot, before raising her hand and signaling for it to stop. She then continued her presentation at DeepFest, an artificial intelligence (AI) event, taking place in Riyadh.
Robotics company QSS, which developed Mohammad, told Metro UK that the robot was “fully autonomous” and that it operated “independently, without direct human control.” “We have already conducted a thorough review of the footage and circumstances surrounding the incident and there was no deviation from Mohammad’s expected behavior,” QSS assured. However, we will take additional measures to prevent anyone from approaching the robot in its movement zones.
