Abdullah Ghaith presented the role of a university professor, religious scholar, thinker and fighter who led a strong movement against the Soviet occupation, before disputes erupted within Afghan society itself.
The film’s huge budget made the team contract with Sean Connery, the hero of the James Bond films, who passed away a few days ago, and Giuliano Gemma, an Italian actor famous in American cinema for the roles of cowboys and war films,

The duration of the film was supposed to be 3 hours, and the team filmed two and a half hours in Morocco, and they only have the scenes of battles that rely on heavy weapons, tanks and army trucks,
The Moroccan army refused to use its military mechanisms in the film, and of course it is not possible to use the mechanisms of another army and film in Morocco.
It was said that the Soviet Union intervened to prevent the film from being shown because the film showed the ugliness of the Soviet occupation, and social media pioneers circulated a short 33-second video of the film, and the film appeared to be in poor condition because the mixer did not work for it.
Soad Hosni appeared in the film silent, and the film’s heroes appeared speaking Classical Arabic, which is the language agreed upon when making a joint Arab production film.
Al-Misbahi, the director of the film, explained, in press statements before his death in 2016, that he was subjected to strong pressures from several Arab countries as well as Russia,
In the end, the film was banned from showing, explaining that it shed light on America’s plan to occupy Afghanistan after the expulsion of the Soviet Union and predicted its collapse, explaining that the film confirms the idea that Muslims are subservient to the West.
Soad Hosni was born on January 26, 1943, and presented 91 works, the last of which was Shepherd and Women in 1991, and she passed away in mysterious circumstances on June 21, 2001.
