G2 Esports has terminated its contract with Head Coach Luka “Perkz” Perković. The dismissal came just hours after the prominent esports figure published a statement containing highly controversial remarks regarding abortion, prompting a swift and definitive response from the organization to the immediate backlash from the community.
“My body, MY choice”
G2 CEO Alban Dechelotte confirmed the termination this Thursday. That’s it.”
The decision followed a period of intense scrutiny of Perkz, fueled by both his recent in-game decisions and the content of his personal statement. While his coaching tenure was already under fire following reports that player Rudy “SkewMond” Semaan would be replaced by Linas “Lyncas” Nauncikas, the ideological nature of his comments proved to be the breaking point.
The statement that sparked the fire
In a lengthy reflection, Perkz addressed his career, his appointment as Head Coach of the Samurai, and the organization’s disappointing 2026 Worlds campaign. He also touched on his past with Carlos “ocelote” Rodríguez Santiago, his dealings with the Tate brothers, and his commitment to his Catholic faith. It was within this context that he issued his remarks on abortion.
“There are some things I stand for, very simple things in life, but the only thing that is unshakeable for me, despite how widely accepted it is in public, is abortion. I cannot comprehend how people do not understand that it is murder, as life is created at conception. That is one view I will die by and never change,” Perkz wrote.
A wave of condemnation
The backlash was immediate. Before G2 issued an official announcement, fans were already calling for his removal. The condemnation quickly moved from the stands to the broadcast booth and professional circles.
French esports host Lou “Loupiote” Henguelle stated she had “rarely read something so abject and caricatural” in her entire life. Laure Valée also voiced her opposition, posting: “Notre corps NOTRE choix, c’est tout” (Our body, OUR choice. That’s it), adding, “Never give in to shame and judgment for a decision that is deeply and rightfully yours and strength to those who sometimes have to make decisions that can be heart-wrenching.”
Even the club’s own French supporters’ association, Les G2 Samouraïs, distanced itself from the coach. “Even though we’re affiliated with G2 and have weathered numerous controversies in recent years, the Perkz case is a true disaster. His statements are deeply revolting. Total support for women in face of such declarations,” they wrote.
The end of a G2 era
As a former midlaner and team captain, he was a central figure of G2.
His transition to coaching the Samurai was met with interest, but the 2026 Worlds campaign left the team in a position of disappointment.
