In Gabon, the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI) created by the military following the coup d’état of August 30 announced this Monday in a press release the indicative timetable for the political transition in Gabon which will end in August 2025 following the elections. Under pressure from donors and certain partners of Gabon, the president of the transition, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma, through this timeline, decides to limit the duration of the transition to two years.

The main stages of this timeline announced by the military are the organization of an inclusive national dialogue in April 2024, chaired by the Archbishop of Libreville, Monseigneur Jean-Patrick Iba-Ba.
In June 2024, the current Parliament will be transformed into a Constituent Assembly. Its mission will be to draft the future Constitution which will be adopted by referendum at the end of 2024.
The overhaul of the electoral system, which has been much criticized in recent years, will take place at the beginning of 2025. The Electoral Code and the electoral list will be dusted off between March and April 2025. In July, voter cards will be distributed for the elections scheduled for the following month.
« This timeline aims to actively involve the Gabonese people in a democratic decision-making process. This transition represents a historic moment for our country. A decisive step towards a better future for all Gabonese people », Said Colonel Ulrich Manfoumbi, spokesperson for the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI). The CTRI warns, however, that this timeline is indicative. It is the inclusive national dialogue that will have the last word.
