design and connectivity

Samsung Galaxy A14 5G

To begin with, we have a simpler construction here, as it happens in this input segment. Both have an all-plastic body, both on the back and sides. Also don’t expect them to have any certification to protect against dust and water.

The Korean sought to give a more premium touch to their design, by placing the rear cameras individually arranged on the cover, in the same way as more expensive models. At least, the A14 comes with a texture made up of small lines, which make the footprint less slippery than the M14’s all-smooth finish.

Samsung Galaxy M14

The A-line phone has the smallest dimensions in height and width, while the M-series is thinner and lighter. They are still similar in the presence of a biometric reader integrated into the power button and the drop-shaped notch on the front.

Both offer storage expansion via the triple drawer, which contains a dedicated microSD card slot. Their connectivity also brings fifth-generation Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2.

With a few more details, the A14 5G takes the lead in the Comparison.

Bodies

The duo has a 6.6-inch LCD-type screen. Despite the material not having a similar quality to an AMOLED panel, the brightness of these devices is above average for the category. Even so, the colors and viewing angle are still far from perfect.

But that’s not all that Samsung kept the same features in them. These devices are still similar in Full HD+ resolution, for good image definition, and in the 90 Hz refresh rate, which allows for greater fluidity in system animations.

With no major differences around here, we’re tied.

As

As they are entry-level smartphones, Samsung preferred to save on the audio part of these models. They only bring a mono speaker, which ends up compromising the user’s immersion in movies and games.

The sound power heard here is nothing but decent, while the balance between bass, mids and highs lacks a lot in them. In other words, the quality does not fit the ideal. At least, the manufacturer still leaves a physical headphone jack on both, despite not sending another accessory in the package.

Again, we don’t have one that stands out in this regard. Therefore, we give one point for each again.

System

Both one and the other come out of the box with Android 13 natively installed. They don’t have all the longevity of more expensive devices, but at least two software updates and three years of security packages are guaranteed by Samsung.

The duo’s fluidity is quite similar, as we see One UI Core here, a leaner version of the brand’s interface. Apart from the presence of a display with a rate of 90 Hz, to boost navigation smoothness. Support for the fastest mobile network is also present in both, although only one of them has 5G in the name.

Even if the simplest system leaves out some features like the secure folder, the A14 and M14 provide some important ones. The list includes Edge Screen shortcuts, opening apps in split screen or windowed mode, as well as setting the power button to quickly open the camera.

Once again, the two score.

Performance

These two entry-level models come equipped with the same Exynos 1330 platform, accompanied by 4 GB of RAM memory. These similarities translate into almost the same performance in practice. Our tests indicated that both take more than two and a half minutes to complete. A14 has a three second advantage, which does not reflect a superiority by their total time.

In the benchmarks, we also have a technical tie. Both get virtually equal scores on AnTuTu and Geekbench indicators. And in games? The big surprise here is that they manage to run even some of the heaviest games at high quality. But don’t expect a perfect experience.

With many similarities in this regard, we are in a tie.

Battery

Battery is usually the strong point of the M line, and this is no different. The Galaxy of this series comes with a capacity of 6,000 mAh, greater than the 5,000 mAh present in the A family cell phone. The result is an autonomy of almost 34 hours for the M14. An advantage of around eight hours for the A14.

Moving on to charging, Samsung sends a 15W adapter in their packaging. The Galaxy A was faster here, but only 14 minutes apart, without compensating for the much greater autonomy of the “brother”.

So the point is with the Galaxy M.

Cmera

On both sides, we find a triple set of rear cameras, led by a main one of 50 MP. With no difference on paper, the A14 is able to explore the sensor better and hit the contrast better, despite both having good dynamic range. The Galaxy A also comes out on top in dark places, with its more efficient night mode.

The duo has a lens for blurring, with a good job in the background cropping, in addition to a macro, which lacks the low resolution and fixed focus. Any one of them would be replaceable by an ultrawide, an absence quite felt in these two.

For overall superior quality, we have a point for the Galaxy A14 5G.

The camcorder of these cell phones is limited to videos in Full HD at 30 fps. The quality of their recordings is good during the day and doesn’t suffer from noise at night. The A14 has a slight advantage overall, even more so with greater stabilization efficiency. At the very least, you’ll get snappy focus and good stereo sound capture, whichever you choose.

In the details, the point goes to the Galaxy A.

Both one and the other have a 13 MP front camera. The selfies of the two please during the day, but the M14 softens the skin a little more than the “brother”. In dark places, we still have good records in them. Not to mention the portrait mode with few errors from the duo. The footage from the front is also nothing more than Full HD at 30 fps.

Once again, we give the point to A14.

These smartphones officially arrived by Samsung in Brazil. The Galaxy A14 5G had its launch price of BRL 1,800, slightly below the suggested price of BRL 1,900 charged by the Galaxy M14. In today’s market, the difference between them no longer exists. Now, the two can be found in the range of R$ 900 in national retail.

With no differences in the recent scenario, we ended the confrontation with another draw.

Samsung Galaxy M14 Compare

Done

Despite the score giving a comfortable victory for Galaxy A, we can say that this was a balanced match. This is because both offer similar conditions in many respects. We are talking about the bright LCD screen, the sound with decent power, the system optimized for basic hardware and the good performance in games.

If we could summarize this Comparison, just put the set of cameras with the highest quality of the A14 5G on one side; and on the other, the battery with better autonomy of the M14.

As the two cell phones are available for the same price in the current Brazilian market, the choice will depend on what matters most to you between these different items.
