We have in our hands the Galaxy S24, the smallest of the three most advanced models launched by Samsung at the beginning of 2024. The changes were subtle and we have a familiar design, a larger screen, a new chipset and a battery with higher capacity. Does this alone justify the launch of a new device?
The design is basically the same as before with thin edges and a hole for the selfie camera, a triple photographic set at the rear with a vertical layout and flat sides that have been made of more rigid aluminum. The IP68 certification continues to be present for protection against water and dust.
The 6.2-inch screen continues with Full HD+ resolution, while the other two in the line come with Quad HD+. We now have a 2x LTPO Dynamic AMOLED panel that achieves higher brightness and better control of the refresh rate to help the battery perform better. The stereo sound pleases both in terms of power and sound quality.
The S24 for sale in Brazil is equipped with Exynos 2400 and not with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 as we have in the Ultra model. Some may be disappointed with the Samsung chip, but it performs well with several apps and ran all the games we tested at maximum. We only criticize the fact that it falls below its predecessor in our speed test, but this also happened with the Ultra.
The battery, now with 4,000 mAh, shows a good leap in autonomy thanks to the chipset’s more advanced manufacturing process and the LTPO screen that reduces speed whenever possible. The S24 yielded 28 hours of moderate use and the 25W charger takes just over 1 hour to fill the battery.
The photo set is the same as before and still takes great photos and videos. Samsung has made some tweaks to the software to reduce aggressive post-processing and we have improved contrast. These are small improvements that make the Korean company’s most affordable top-of-the-line camera even better.
