The last time we looked at GameSir’s accessories, we discussed the T4k Kaleid. At £35, we can’t ask for much from the controller, as it’s even cheaper than bog-standard first-party Microsoft and Sony controllers. However, we found some differences with the attachments, mainly some issues with the buttons and weight of the controller. Now, for a bump up to £49.99, we have the G7 SE Wired, a world-first controller as it’s the only Xbox controller with a Hall effect stick. We’ll get into those sticks later, but for now all you need to know is that GameSir has packed some extra detail into its latest controller to make it stand out. First, though, we’ll look at the basics. How does the G7 SE Wired feel and how does it play? Regarding the former, I have to say it’s a solid upgrade from the last GameSir kit I reviewed. This controller feels much less on the budget. Sturdy design, the face buttons don’t feel like they might get stuck when pressed by my heavy hands. What particularly attracted me this time was the appearance of this controller. While it does have a removable faceplate for you to draw your own design or just swap out for another one, I have to say that the white exterior of the G7 SE Wired is a nice touch in its own right. With the colorful letters on the face buttons, I found myself being pulled back to my original white Xbox 360 controller, only given a more modern, sleeker design. Here’s an ad: Rough edges on the grip and trigger ensure my sweaty fingers won’t slip even on the hottest summer days. Now, we get into Hall effect sticks. These are drift-resistant, which means they shouldn’t wear out over time. I must say, I haven’t spent the time it takes to drift from this controller, so I can’t say how well they work with sustained, extended use. What I can say, though, is that the sticks feel great to play and are just as responsive and precise as their matching Hall Effect triggers. We’re not talking absolutely cutting-edge stuff here, but let me reiterate that at £49.99 this controller is still cheaper than the basic Xbox Series and PS5 controllers, so you’re getting every penny here. That’s fine if you want to get into the luxury controller department, but for those on a bigger budget, the G7 SE is a solid choice. The downside for some might be that it’s only wired, but considering the nice braided cord you get with it, and how secure the connection is, I can’t say I found any negatives in that factor. So what is there to improve? Well, even with the improved feel and looks, I still have issues with the G7 SE’s weight, and the directional pad isn’t of the same quality as the triggers, stick, or face buttons. Depending on what you’re playing, this can be a real hindrance. The weight is still my main concern though, as it becomes less of an excuse as we use these GameSir controllers as prices go up. It feels like the controller could fly at any moment, but I do understand that this might be more of a personal issue for me than something every gamer will care about. Overall, with its solid build, nice-looking triggers, sticks, and face buttons, and the novelty of the faceplate, the G7 SE Wired is a solid choice if you want an extra Xbox or PC controller.
