Increase in garden shed tax in 2024
According to information from our colleagues at Télégramme, published on December 27, 2023, owners who have a shed or an extension will once again have to face a new increase in the garden shed tax in 2024. This would be the eighth consecutive increase in this local tax since its creation in 2012. This concerns all constructions of more than 5 square meters which have a ceiling height greater than 1.80 meters.
Also called development tax, this tax was created to finance the territorial development of municipalities. We will have to wait for a publication in the Official Journal to know the increase in the tax on garden sheds. Nevertheless, according to INSEE estimates, owners should expect an increase of 3.4% for the year 2024. After an increase in 8 % in 2023 (7% in 2022), the flat rate value of this tax was set at 886 euros per square meter across the entire French territory, and 1004 euros in Île-de-France.

If you are considering building a shelter or shed with a surface area greater than 5 square meters, please note that you may be eligible for a total or partial exemption from property tax on this construction for a period of two years..
