Gary Neville: Manchester United should sign Son Heung-min as Ronaldo’s successor

Gary Neville (47), a former English Premier League (EPL) legend, gave him some solid advice for his home team, Manchester United. Manchester United insisted on signing Son Heung-min (30, Tottenham) as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo (37).

According to Football London on the 18th (Korean time), Neville suggested that “If Ronaldo leaves[Man Utd]this summer, United should sign a contract with Son Heung-min.”

Neville, a legendary Manchester United defender, was usually bitter towards his former team.

Neville believes that Manchester United, who failed to enter the top 4 in the EPL season in 2021-22, need to bring in better attacking resources to make a comeback, and judged Son Heung-min to be the right person.

Manchester United, who had their final match in the EPL this season, remained in sixth place with 16 wins, 10 draws and 11 losses (58 points), and their participation in the UEFA Champions League next season was frustrated.

Manchester United are likely to start a new game by signing Erik ten Haach Ajax (Netherlands) ahead of the upcoming season. There are also rumors that Ronaldo, who returned to Manchester United ahead of the 2021-22 season, could leave the team.

“Neville said that Manchester United should work hard to sign Son Heung-min before the summer transfer window,” the media said.

Neville said, “It would be nice if Manchester United bring Harry Kane, but that would be difficult. If you are removed from the power, you need a player to fill the position.”

As Neville claims, the chances of Son Heung-min leaving Tottenham for Manchester United do not seem high. Son Heung-min signed a four-year contract renewal with Tottenham last year until 2025.

Nevertheless, Neville’s selection of Son Heung-min as a suitable player for Manchester United seems to have recognized his performance. Heung-Min Son scored 21 goals and 7 assists in the Premier League this season, ranking second in scoring and attacking points.

Son Heung-min performed better than Ronaldo with 18 goals and 3 assists.

Football London reported that “Neville has repeatedly insisted on bringing Heung-Min Son, who is valued at £59 million.” Neville has pointed out Son Heung-min as the ‘EPL Player of the Year’, not Salah or Kevin De Bruyne (Man City).
