Gas connections have not been made in 10 Andean towns for ten months

No new gas connections have been made in the area for ten months from San Martín and Junín de los Andes and Villa La Angostura.

The problem is that the two compression plants of the gPatagonian Cordilleran pipeline that the national government had promised would be operationaleratives for the coming winter.

The company Camuzzi Gas del Sur confirmed that, indeed, no new connections are made that have been submitted after July 15, 2022. On that date -it was delimited- sThe entry was restricted and all previous requests are respected but later “It is subject to the national State completing the works.”

The concern was raised by business sectors to the governor of the province, Omar Gutiérrez, in a virtual meeting a little over a month ago who managed information regarding con the need to have this equipment in the pipeline in order to increase transportation capacity and complained to the Secretary of Energy, Flavia Royón.

The natural gas transportation and distribution system called Gasoducto Cordillerano Patagonico is supplied through two injection points, the first is located in Collón Curá, Neuquén, from Transportadora Gas del Sur; and the second, in the extreme south on the Patagonian gas pipeline, in the El Zorro field of PanAmerican Energy, PAE.

The Cordillerano Patagonico gas pipeline supplies some 25 towns in Chubut, Río Negro and Neuquén.
The neighboring province includes Ñoquinco, Pilcaniyeu, Dina Huapi, Comallo, Onelli, Ingeniero Jacobacci, El Bolson and Bariloche.

In Neuquén it supplies Villa La Angostura, San Martín de los Andes and Junín de los Andes.
In order for the pipeline to have more conduction capacity and thus face the increase in the number of connections, the national government had promised the construction of two compression plants, orna in Río Senguer and an additional team in Gobernador Costa where a plant already works. Both are unrealized.

Does eight years that the system reached the limit of its capacity, specifically at the end of 2015, due to the increase in demand and the lack of infrastructure works that accompany the evolution.

Due to this situation, the feasibility of new connections was conditioned as of March 2016 – according to a report from the distributor – moment in which the system had not only a growing demand but also works pending completion which were to be operational between 2014 and 2015.

It was a loop, that is, lines of a gas pipeline that is reconnected to the same pipe at another point to increase capacity, in ten locations in the three provinces.

That is why the distributor adopted preventive measures to avoid operational risks in the provision: the derivations and the compression plants are delayed.

The 2May 6, 2017, a tender was called for the construction of an extension system of the Patagonian Mountains gas pipeline.

The object of that project wasto expand the capacity of the system with new reinforcements with a projected demand of 22,000 additional users in the localitiesIt’s your layout.

The budget for this work fEU of $1.7 billion (six years ago) and the estimated execution period is 18 months.

The plan included a compression plant in Río Senguer, a parallel gas pipeline in the discharge from the Gobernador Costa compression plant, another parallel pipeline in Leleque and reinforcement in the supply branches of Bariloche, San Martín d elos Andes, El Bolsón, Lago Puelo, Villa La Angostura and Trecontrol room.

In the year 2014 the expansion of the Cordillerano Patagonico gas pipeline had been announced, dDue to the sustained growth in demand for natural gas and the insufficient capacity demonstrated by the gas pipeline.

That is why in 2017, the National State made the decision to take charge of the execution of the necessary works so that Camuzzi could provide a reliable service in the five-year period 2017-2022.

National deputy Rolando Figueroa, MPN, had submitted a request for reports to Energy in July last year but did not indicate whether he had received responses. He was asking, precisely, the state of execution of these works that prevented new home connections.
