Gaza Siblings Receive Customised Mobility Devices Funded by OCHA via Educaid

In a report published by UN News on November 7, 2026, three siblings in the Gaza Strip living with severe physical disabilities received customised mobility devices designed to transform their daily routines.

Ten-year-old Anas, along with his siblings Sujood and Mohammad, was born without legs and with only two fingers on each hand. Performing routine tasks such as eating, writing, and moving independently presented continuous daily struggles amidst the ongoing violence across the Gaza Strip.

Funded by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the international non-governmental organisation EducAid stepped in to design and produce bespoke equipment. Technicians built the devices inside their laboratories and workshops to address the specific physical needs of each child.

Before receiving support, Anas relied on crawling across the ground using his hands while his mother carried him for longer distances. EducAid upgraded his wheelchair with a detachable table, an adaptive waterproof protector shield for his lower body, a customised pen grip, and an adjustable slant table.

Hand-walking aids were also provided to give him greater autonomy. I am very happy and I love you so much, Anas told the support team, according to UN News.

Sujood, the 17-year-old older sister, received a size-40 wheelchair equipped with a detachable dining table, an adjustable slant table, and a hand support walking aid. Previously, writing required her to lie down flat due to extreme exhaustion and poor balance.

For the first time I have my own chair. I slept in it so that none of my siblings would take it from me, Sujood said, as reported by UN News. I feel that someone cares about me.

She added that the new setup allows her to study the field she loves, which is media, and move outside their tent without soiling her clothes. Fifteen-year-old Mohammad received a specially adapted wheelchair featuring a skateboard attachment, alongside hand grips and a commode chair.

I am very happy with the table – my clothes no longer get dirty, Mohammad said. Their teacher noted that all three children have become distinguished in their eagerness to study and have started writing much more effectively.
