The issue of leadership was raised by the director of SYRIZA’s KO, George Tsipras, who in an interview expressed the opinion that SYRIZA should go to the European elections led by Stefanos Kasselakis, however he noted that if there is no agreement with him, we will have to find another face.
Speaking on Parapolitika radio and when asked if SYRIZA should proceed with a collective leadership in the European elections, George Tsipras answered: “No, there should be one, it should be Stefanos Kasselakis until the European elections, if there is no agreement, there should be one a person who will gather the consent of all of us, unanimously, to proceed until the European elections”.
Referring to today’s meeting of the Political Secretariat, he said: “I hope that today there can be a solution, this is the mood of everyone in the PG. I supported Kasselakis until his election, I was never part of a leadership group. Then I supported him, as we all should.”
“There must be an agreement to go in an orderly manner until the European elections, without surprises, without me deciding, as should be the functioning of a democratic Left party, I hope there will be a solution for a better perspective until the European elections”, he noted and emphasized that “no there is a principle of one man.”
Finally, when asked to take a position on whether Alexis Tsipras should return, George Tsipras replied: “He would help a lot, not only SYRIZA needs him, but the progressive world of our country.”
It is noted that the meeting of the Political Secretariat will start at 7 pm, as – as the party’s announcement states – everyone will be able to participate in the farmers’ rally at the Constitution. At the same time, Stefanos Kasselakis will have returned from London by the afternoon, while his presence is deemed necessary to calm the spirits in SYRIZA.
