The Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, announced that 300,000 free diagnostic tests for breast cancer have been performed in women.

“300,000 free diagnostic tests have already been carried out on women for breast cancer and the goal is to exceed 1,300,000 by the end of 2025. At the same time, since March 1, a gigantic program for the prevention of cervical cancer has been launched with the aim of having 1,290,000 women who will have been screened at all critical ages by the end of 2025,” the minister said in Parliament health, Adonis Georgiadesanswering a topical question from ND MP, Anna Efthimiou, who emphasized the need for gender equality in the health sector as well, noting that “women spend on average 25% more of their lives in poor health than men ».

“Bridging the gender gap in health is therefore a priority as it will enable women to live healthier and lead a better quality of life. Quality, affordable and accessible health care is a critical aspect of ensuring the multi-level well-being of women”, pointed out Mrs. Efthymiou.

“Unfortunately, the inequality between the two sexes still exists in health”, acknowledged the Minister of Health, adding that “the aim of the government is to eliminate it as it is not only a question of rights but also a very critical factor for the success of economic development for women to participate equally in every level”.

Georgiadis: “Spyros Doxiadis” is the largest screening program in the country

Mr. Georgiadis emphasized the “Spyros Doxiadis program”, noting that “it is the largest preventive examination program that has ever been carried out in the country and is basically oriented towards the investigation of women’s health”.

“Its two biggest programs are the breast cancer prevention program in which 300,000 free diagnostic tests have already been carried out, and the goal is to exceed 1,300,000 free diagnostic tests for women by the end of 2025.

A gigantic program has been launched to prevent cervical cancer

At the same time, a gigantic program for the prevention of cervical cancer has been launched since March 1. Our goal is by the end of 2025 to have 1,290,000 women who will have had a check-up at all critical ages”, stressed Mr. Georgiadis.

As he said, “according to the guidelines of the World Health Organization for the prevention and elimination of uterine cancer, cervical cancer is a disease that with timely vaccination of women can be extinguished and eliminated.”

“For the first time we have such a large program of free examinations and it is a shame that it is not used to 100%. Some will definitely save their lives. Statistically this is absolutely certain.

“Cervical cancer is a disease that can be eliminated by timely vaccination of girls up to the age of 15,” underlined Mr. Georgiadis.

However, he also emphasized vaccinating boys at a young age for the HPV virus because, as he said, if they do it, the virus is eliminated.”

“It is a wart disease that if treated early saves lives. If you leave it, in men – not in women – it sometimes leads to neoplasms”, he said and added:

“It is statistically proven that if a critical mass is vaccinated on time, in a few years cervical cancer ceases to exist and this means many lives gained but also a much higher quality of life because it is not only women who will die from cancer but it is also the women who will be saved but will have lost years of their lives and they and their families, from the heavy treatments”.

Finally, according to iefimerida, Mr. Georgiadis announced that “in the annual national action plan of the Ministry of Health and through the Recovery Fund there is a special program for mother-child-family relationships for mental health”.

“Our goal is to be able to provide mental health services, especially to mothers, who may never have had the knowledge that there are programs available to them that can really change their lives,” concluded the Minister of Health.
