Gerapetritis meeting with the Turkish Foreign Minister in London – 2024-05-01 12:49:16

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Gerapetritis had a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan today in London.

A meeting, which, like the previous time around the end of February in Brussels, was not known to take place.

According to the announcement of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two men met in preparation for the upcoming visit of Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Turkey, which is scheduled for May 13.

According to information, as the time frame until the Prime Minister’s trip was narrowing, the two sides sought a common place and date, in order to mainly discuss the agenda, the agenda of the Mitsotakis-Erdogan summit meeting.

After the completion of the new round of contacts on the three pillars of the Greek-Turkish dialogue – political consultations, Confidence Building Measures and a positive agenda, the two Foreign Ministers reviewed the progress achieved to date, the degree of implementation of what was agreed on December 7 in Athens, but also the prospects of promoting further agreements.

As has been made clear many times recently by Athens, the upcoming Mitsotakis-Erdogan meeting will not discuss the issue of the legal dispute recognized by Greece regarding the delimitation of maritime zones, but the next steps of the Greek-Turkish dialogue are expected to be determined , with the two leaders expected to meet again at the NATO Summit in July in Washington.
