Cologne – The Austrian branches of German retail groups Lidl, Rewe and Aldi may also have contributed: German food retailing set a sales record in 2023, surpassing the 200 billion euro mark for the first time. Nominal revenue for dealers increased by almost 5% to 204.5 billion euros. However, in real terms, that is, after adjusting for price increases, they turned out to be significantly negative. This is the conclusion drawn from data released by retail research organization EHI. As a result, sales grew less than inflation.
