A 26-year-old and her 21-year-old brother from Germany went on a mountain tour on Saturday. They wanted to hike the Stoderer Dolomitensteig in the municipality of Hinterstoder. Due to the steep terrain and the current snow situation, the two vacationers could neither go forward nor back at 3 p.m. and made an emergency call. The crew of the Libelle Upper Austria police helicopter rescued the uninjured mountaineers from the steep terrain.
The hikers were poorly equipped for the tour because they did not carry adequate winter equipment (no adequate winter hiking clothing, no crampons, no ice ax). The tour planning was also poor. They did not deal with the current snow and weather conditions and, according to their own statements, were “surprised” by the deep snow.
