Germany’s Rheinmetall will produce ammunition in Ukraine

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference by Oleksandr Kamyshin, Minister of Industry of Ukraine, and Armin Paperger, CEO of Rheinmetall.

For security reasons, the name of the local partner, the location of the factory and the start date of production have not been disclosed.

The joint venture, of which 51 percent shares will belong to Rheinmetall, and 49 percent – to Ukraine’s partner, will make a “significant contribution to Ukraine’s defense capabilities and strengthen European security”, said A. Pappergeris.

This will be Rheinmetall’s second joint venture in Ukraine. On the first of October, a contract for the repair of military vehicles was signed with the state-owned company UDI.

And last Monday, the cornerstone of the future ammunition factory was laid at the Rheinmetall industrial complex in the northern German city of Unterlius in the presence of Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

In 2025, this factory will begin production of NATO-standard 155 mm caliber shells used in numerous artillery systems, and the production volume will eventually reach 200,000. of shells per year.
