Mader’s fatal accident occurred at kilometer 197 of the queen stage of the Tour of Switzerland, after the last port of the stage that ended in Le Punt, during the dangerous descent of Albulapass. The Swiss cyclist fell down a ravine and was left unconscious on the water.

“A high finish could have been perfectly possible, it was not a good decision to make us finish after a dangerous descent. As cyclists, we have to think about the risks we take going down the mountains”, commented the Belgian Remco Evenepoel.
