Giorgos Tsipras contradicts himself: I did not say that we should all pay for the damages of students in schools 2024-04-15 08:20:53

Speaking to Mega, he was asked to comment on his statement that “damage and vandalism that may be done by students should be paid for by the state budget and not by the parents of the children”, he denied that he had mentioned such a thing and argued that “what was published it has nothing to do with what I said.”

“I said that it is wrong for the parent to pay for everything and everything their child does. It is a montage that was broadcast by some media”, he claimed, and although the video in question with his statements from yesterday was shown again, he again denied them and supported the montages “by specific media”, as he said.

“There is legislation that allows for administrative penalties within the school and there can be a criminal offense and the one who has to pay must pay. It is wrong to ask the parent to pay for the damages caused by their child. As much as possible, these issues should be resolved within the school community,” he stressed.

He even said that “they start and threaten parents that their children’s squatting and damages will be paid for by their parents”, while he was critical of the measures against school violence, excluding the platform for complaints.

The SYRIZA MEP candidate, George Tsipras, expressed his opposition to the government announcements to combat school bullying and changes in schools yesterday to Action24.

In particular, Mr. Tsipras disagreed with the measure that provides for the parent to pay for the damage that his child may cause to the school.

“If my child breaks three windows and two desks, is it right that I the parent should pay for it?” he wondered.

“This will not solve any problems. Until now, who was paying them? Let’s all continue to pay them. This concept of individual responsibility is not going to solve anything at all. They are covered by Greek society and the state. This is the right thing to do,” he said.
