Pogačar has indicated plans to target the Vuelta a España and the Tour de France instead. Sportschau.de adds that defending champion Jonas Vingegaard and young French talent Paul Seixas also appear unlikely to take the start in Italy, leaving Remco Evenepoel as the primary Grand Tour heavyweight currently considering the 2027 Giro.
Meanwhile, regional organizers continue to position their territories for future editions. Sport.orf.at details that Osttirol missed out on a 2027 stage slot, prompting Tourism Association Chairman Franz Theurl to set his sights on 2028. Giro Race Director Matteo Mursia stated in a release from Dolomitensport Osttirol, as cited by sport.orf.at, We really tried everything to integrate East Tyrol. Unfortunately, we did not succeed.
Mursia added that the objective is to plan upcoming years with a longer lead time. Osttirol will instead host the final two stages of the Tour of the Alps on April 22 and 23, 2027.
