Climate activists from Fridays for Future will take to the streets again next Friday and demonstrate for climate justice and a future worth living. When the numerous supporters of the demonstration meet in the Volksgarten in front of the music theater in Linz from 12 p.m., their clear message will be: “We don’t want gas from Molln.”
Due to the announced test drilling near an adjacent nature reserve in the town of Molln, the question for climate activists is: Why isn’t a greener alternative energy supply the focus of events instead of suspected gas deposits? For Fridays for Future supporters it is clear: “Promoting gas in the middle of a climate crisis is like driving towards a wall at high speed.”
16-year-old student Elisabeth Steiner describes the promotion of this form of energy today as ignorant and negligent. According to the young climate activist, there are currently completely different problems to be solved in Upper Austria: “We lack wind turbines, we are currently completely overwhelmed by the energy transition, the demand for electricity is growing uncontrollably and our infrastructure is not prepared for it.”
Rally at Landhausplatz
Especially at the start of the new school year, the Fridays for Future organizers expect that there will be a high level of interest in the climate strike among students. “Young people in particular are not giving up hope,” say the organizers.
After the demonstrators marched from the Volksgarten through downtown Linz, the final rally took place at Landhausplatz.
