Global stocks fell to their lowest levels in 7 months

Global stocks continued to decline in today’s trading, amid the risk of a broader conflict in the Middle East, as well as the possibility of interest rates remaining high for a long period.

The MSCI World Index fell 0.1 percent to its lowest levels since late March, and the MSCI Asia Pacific Stock Index excluding Japan fell 0.5 percent to its lowest levels in almost a year.

The European Central Bank is scheduled to hold its monetary policy meeting this week, and although interest rates are expected to remain unchanged at 4 percent, markets are awaiting any indications regarding future movements.

Investors are awaiting any signals from European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde on how the recent rise in global bond yields will affect the euro zone’s monetary policy outlook.

In terms of data, the US GDP reading this week is expected to show annual growth of 4.2 percent in the third quarter.
