Marco Rossi recorded two scorer points in an NHL game for the first time on Thursday, but suffered the next defeat in the North American ice hockey league with the Minnesota Wild. The 22-year-old from Vorarlberg scored the goal to make it 2:3 (42nd) in the 3:5 at home against the New Jersey Devils and prepared the 3:4 through Jake Middleton (57th).
Minnesota fell behind 3-0 at the start of the middle third and went into the final third down 3-1. Coach Dean Evason changed his lines after the second break and had Rossi storm between the two top strikers Kirill Kaprisow and Matt Boldy.
The Vorarlberg center received over 20 minutes of ice time for the first time and has four goals and two assists after ten games. “In the last few games we had a difficult start, we have to change that. We played really well towards the end of the game,” explained Rossi.
While things are going well for him personally, the season so far has been disappointing for Minnesota. The Wild have lost four games in a row and six of their seven most recent games and have fallen to sixth place in the Central Division.
The defense in particular is a headache; with 43 goals conceded, Minnesota has conceded the second most of all 32 clubs. Only the still winless San Jose Sharks have conceded more goals with 45 after their 10-1 defeat against the Vancouver Canucks.
